PROGRAM
COMPONENTS
Collegium
3 credits
All
students who are pursuing practical or academic certificates
are required to attend and participate at two collegiums
each year that they are enrolled in the program. This will
be an opportunity for students to meet and network and to
discuss issues in Youth and Young Adult Ministry not covered
in courses. Topics will be chosen by the steering committee
after consultation with students and co-coordinator.
Mentor
Each student will meet on a regular basis with a mentor
who will be chosen in consultation with the co-coordinator
(approximately twice a month) to discuss theology, ministry
and any issues that may arise during their program. The
primary role of the mentor is to provide direct support
to the student.

Students will be administered quizzes upon completion of subject
matter areas to measure ministerial development and academic
progress.
Practices
in Youth Ministry or Young Adult Equivalent
3 credits
A two hour course, to be held at GMSAM which will cover
many topics surrounding the use of spiritual practices with
youth and young adults.
Field
Training - Youth & Young Adult Ministry
The intention of the Field Training is to provide a variety
of experiences in congregational and non-congregational
settings, including a range of age groups.
Two
areas of training are required:

Congregational
Youth or Young Adult Work
approximately 20 hours
4 (SEP - DEC or JAN - APR) or 8 (SEP - APR) months
Supervision
and support will be met in two ways:
- Co-coordinator
of the program will consult with student and lay
training committee at beginning, mid-point and end
of internship.
- Lay
training committee (made up of congregational members
and youth representatives): this group will meet
with the student to discuss learning goals and provide
feedback in student's ministry

On-site
project
Consisting of a least 20 hours, including preparation
time and on-site work.
Supervision for this element would be done by an appropriate
on-site person, approved by the Steering Committee/Coordinator.
This unit may be completed by being part of the leadership
team for such events and courses as Senior Teens at
GMSAM Youth Retreat; camp counselor-in-training programs,
planning and leading a Youth at Conference, VBS, etc.
Projects should be designed to meet specific learning
goals. |

All of the following courses are available through GMSAM
Bible Institute and may be completed as four-month term
courses, Intensives, Internet courses, or by Correspondence
or Distance Education. These are all required courses that
may be taken in any order.

Course

A self-designed course to be focused around the area of
Youth Ministry and subjects in which the student has an
interest or feels the need for further study.
The
Diploma
All
students pursuing either an Academic or a Practical Certificate
are required to complete the certificate or the full diploma
in a minimum of two years to a maximum of five years. Records
of all courses completed and submitted to the Coordinator
will be kept on file at the local church office.
